STYLE: Transitional Pieces for Fall

We’re in that beautiful time of year where it’s not quite cold enough to wear a heavy jacket but wearing tees alone are a little too chilly. Finding the right transitional pieces is key because they can be worn throughout the seasons. Alone when it’s not super cold or layered once the temperature drops.

I’ve rounded up some great pieces to add to your forever wardrobe. Neutrals are always your best options for these pieces so they can be mixed into your wardrobe easily as well as last much longer than a trendy color. These are the pieces that are well worth investing in. They will last you for years and you’ll want to wear them constantly. That’s why finding a good quality piece is so worth the investment.

A neutral cardigan is a must! I can’t stress this enough. It goes with so much. Pair with a silky dress, oversized jeans and a tank, over a black tight turtleneck and high waisted wool pants. The possiblities are truly endless so it’s a great piece to add to your closet if you don’t already have. I love a nice chunky fabric as it can give so much character to a look. Also looks super chic tied around your shoulders.

I like a denim jacket because it’s just easy. I even wear it in the summer when I just want a little something extra if we go out to somewhere that has air-conditioning. Draped over your shoulders is cute too. I love anything draped over my shoulder to be honest! Something super effortless about styling pieces this way.

Of course you need a black blazer. I can assume you most likely already have one but upgrading to a timeless piece like this one is very worth considering. Wear to work, to dinner, out shopping. I like dressing it up and down which is ideally what a good blazer is able to do. Just making sure it has good structure in the shoulders without too much padding that it looks like it’s drowning you. I prefer a tad oversized for a ‘borrowed from the boyfriend’s closet’ look.

Black straight leg pants seem to never go out of style. I’ve seen changes in the rise from high to low but I think high and mid-rise are the best classic styles. I love wearing them with a simple white tee or a silk cami for a night out. Sneakers or high heels - both look great.

Casual but elevated. These wool wide-leg pants are a great replacement for all the sweatpants we’ve been wearing. Still comfortable but more put together. I love a good pant like this for traveling or just a quick coffee run. Makes me feel like I don’t look like I just rolled out of bed. Pairs well with a white oversized button down or again, my favorite - a white tee.

Oh denim. My first clothing love. I could wear denim for almost every scenario and that’s why I love them. This pair is a tad more tailored and in a great medium wash. I like a medium to dark wash when I want to look more formal. I think it’s more elevated than a light wash. Of course, black denim is always the best way to go for a must have staple but I think medium wash is a close second.

CONVERSE high top sneakers (shop more converse here) / JW ANDERSON black chain loafers (shop more mules here) / CHANEL black ballerinas (shop more flats here)

I love love love converse high tops. I have them in black and in white and I find them to be such a good staple. They are super comfortable, I wear them with pants, jeans and dresses. I love how you’ll see young fresh faced Parisian women wearing them as well as 7 year old boys and girls. They are a pretty perfect sneaker.

Loafers are very much a classic shoe. There are so many variations now and every season brands come out with a new take on them. I was not a fan when these first came out but they quickly grew on me. I have these Gucci ones that I’ve been wearing for years but if I could do a fun upgrade, I would definitely get these.

Chanel Ballet flats. You just can’t go wrong. I love how easy and feminine a ballet flat is. Another shoe you can wear with everything. I wore them with cashmere sweatpants the other day and they looked very chic. So many options for ballet flats but Chanel is the ultimate classic.

What would you say your favorite transitional piece is? Would love to know!
